Rs 232 crore disbursed to rehabilate 1984 riot vitims: Bhattal

Chandigarh, Dec 28 (UNI) The Punjab Government has disbursed Rs 232.71 crore to rehabilitate the victims of 1984 riots.

This was disclosed by Deputy Chief Minister Mrs Rajinder Kaur Bhattal here today in a meeting of the cabinet committee for implementation of rehabilitation grant to the victims.

She said that funds were released for this relief package to the tune of Rs 247.62 crore and after disbursement only 15 crore were left which would be disbursed by the Deputy Commissioners shortly.

She further said that it has also been decided in the meeting that Deputy Commissioners has demanded Rs 117.50 lakh fresh funds out of which Rs 105.05 lakh had been sanctioned by the Finance Department.

It has also been decided in the meeting to release Rs 3.05 lakh ex-gratia to Subedar Anoop Singh Sidhu who lost his life during riots.

She said that one case of Mrs Ranjit Kaur redirected by Punjab and Haryana High Court was also cleared by the committee. Another case of Pran Singh Sethi of Patiala has also been cleared by the committee after the verification of report.
