Recommendations of Mangalore task force to be considered
Mangalore, Dec 28 (UNI) The Karnataka State Planning Board will consider incorporating in the State budget for 2007-08 some of the recommendations of the Coastal Agenda Task Force of Mangalore, its Deputy Chairman A Ravindra has said.
Speaking on 'Planning for Development of Coastal Karnataka', organised by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry here last evening, he said the recommendations of the report, submitted to him, could be ''valuable inputs'' for preparing the budget. The recommendations could also be perused while preparing the plan document for the 11th five-year plan, he added.
Stressing the need for managing cities, he said it had become a real challenge and ''we require professionals to manage cities''.
Instead of planning big projects like sky bus for Mangalore, the planners should give priority to improvement of basic infrastructure such as roads and sanitation system.
Earlier, Task Force Chairman Vinay Hegde opined that experts and locals should have the right to decide what type of industries were required in the ecologically-sensitive region of coastal Karnataka, surrounded by biodiversity hot spot Western Ghats on one side and Arabian Sea on the other.
