Railways women start their compaign on sound note

Jaipur, Dec 28 (UNI) Defending champion Railways kicked off their winning campaign on a sound note as they routed Maharashtra 97-39 in a one- sided affair in women's group 'A' in the 57th Senior National Basketball Championship at the SMS Stadium here today.

Heetu Anna Jose was the star performer for the Railways scoring 22 points,while Seema Singh and Shyamla accounted 10 and 7 points respectively. Meenakshi and Beena made 13 and 7 points respectively for Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Services trounced Uttaranchal 80-72 in men's group 'A',while Tripura defeated Pondichery by 84-47.

Dilip Kumar top scored with 20 points for Services followed by Phool Singh 17 and S Sattu 11. Mohit Bhandari scored the most for Uttaranchal as he accounted 19 points.

Accurate shooting from long range by Vinod, who alone scored 31 points, made the affair one-sided for Tripura. Dinesh too combined well with Vinod as he also scored 24 points. For Pondichery, Ganesh and Devraj each scored 12 points.

Twenty five teams in the men's and 22 teams in women sectioons are participating in this eight- day championship, the teams in both the sections have been devided in six groups with Delhi figuring in group A and group B respectively.
