President expresses serious concern over Mamta's health

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam has expressed serious concern over the health of Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee.

The President spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee this morning in this connection, Rashtrapati Bhawan sources said.

Dr Kalam had spoken to the West Bengal CM two days back also.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had instructed Central authorities to extend whatever medical care was required for the Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee who is on an indefinite fast for the last 24 days.

Ms Banerjee is on an indefinite fast in Kolkata to protest the alleged forced acquisition of farmers' land in Singur, West Bengal, by the state government for the constuction of a car plant to be set up by Tatas.

Responding to the 'indefinite fast', Tata Group patriarch Ratan Tata yesterday while blaming his competitors had said his group would not pull out of the Singur automobile project in West Bengal despite the issue snowballing into a political controversy.
