Parveen bags second gold, creates new meet record

Mumbai, Dec 28 (UNI) Parveen Ram of Rajasthan secured her second gold of the meet as well as created a new meet record in the discuss throw event in the Girls U-19 age group at the 52nd National Schools Athletic meet at the Priyadarshini Park here today.

Parveen's throw of 44.44 meters eclipsed the previous mark of 43.78 metres held by Harvant Kaur of Punjab.

The closest races of the meet so far were the two 100 meters finals of the U-19 boys and girls age groups. West Bengal achieved quite a feat in the Boys U-19 100 m final, where Debashish Das finished with a quick time of 11 seconds that saw him take gold from Angelo S (Kerala) and Deepak Bhaskar (Maharashtra) in what was a photo finish. Das clocked a time of 11.0 secs, while Angelo finished with 11.1.

Nineteen-year-old Parveen stamped her class on the event just like she had done during the shot put event. After having missed out on the meet record in the shot put, Parveen seemed determined to create a new mark in the Discuss throw. Her throw of 44.44 was over two meters ahead of the rest of the competition.

The small-town girl deserved the new mark that was compliment to her physical capability.
