New IB chief to take charge on New Year

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) Senior IPS officer P C Haldar will take over as the new chief of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) on January 1 for a two-year tenure.

His elevation to the crucial post in place of Mr E S L Narasimha, who retires on December 31, was formally announced today by the Home Ministry, though his name was cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Appointments and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday.

A 1970 batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre, Mr Haldar is currently Special Director of Intelligence Bureau.

The 59-year-old Halder is taking over the mantle of the Intelligence Bureau at a time when there is increasing threat to internal security in different forms.

He has a very long and vast experience in VIP security and counter-surveillance. He has also served in various missions abroad, including the High Commission in Britain.
