Manipur make clean sweep in Sepak Takraw
Chandigarh, Dec 28 (UNI) Manipur boys and girls made a clean sweep by retaining all four titles at stake in the 10th Junior National Sepak Takraw Championship which concluded here this evening.
After winning the team tites yesterday, Manipur won the reghu trophies both in the boys and girls sections.
Displaying good serve and kicking, Manipur boys took 27 minutes to down Andhra Pradesh by 2-0 (21-18, 21-10) in final. S Harichandra, Ch Kanan and Th Dhanajit made a formidable combination for Manipur team. M Shellar played a good net game in blocking and smashing for Andhra Pradesh. Vijay Chandra B and Nagendra Babu were the other members of the AP team.
The Manipur boys won the reghu title for the ninth time.
Tamil Nadu defeated Uttar Pradesh by 2-1 (19-21, 25-24, 15-13) to decide the third and fourth positions in the boys category.
Earlier, Manipur girls maintained their monopoly as they raced to a 2-0 (21-6, 21-6) triumph against Orissa in the final. In a one-sided encounter, Manipur took just 25 minutes to emerge winner for the tenth time in a row. Kh Omita, M Shanti and Kh Priya displayed proper understanding among themselves. Pravasini Parida, Pramila Behera and Jayanti Moharana appeared for Orissa.
Andhra Pradesh, however, have some consolation as their girls won the third place at the expense of Tamil Nadu whom they defeated by 25-23, 10-21, 16-14 to decide third and fourth positions.
Former Union Sports Minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Member of Parliament and senior Akali leader was the chief guest and distributed the prizes.
