Man arrested for wife's death in Puducherry

Puducherry, Dec 28 (UNI) Police today arrested a cloth merchant in connection with the death of his wife on December 24.

According to police, Anbazhagan, after marrying Maheswari about four months ago, came to her residence at Kirumambakkam. The couple went to the beach at Moorthikuppam and were found chatting. However, after sometime Anbazhagan informed her relatives that Maheswari drowned in the sea while taking bath.

Suspecting foul play in the death of his sister, Narayanan lodged a complaint with the police stating that she was harassed and tortured by Anbazhagan and his mother.

As police did not initiate any action, more than 100 women from self-help groups in Kirumambakkam picketed the All Women Police station yesterday.

Meanwhile, police registered a case under section 302 of the IPC and arrested Anbazhagan.
