Make details of Nehru-Ayub-Sheikh talks public: Hakeem Yaseen
Srinagar, Dec 28 (UNI) Peoples Democratic Forum (PDF) chairman Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen today demanded making public the details of talks held between former Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, then Pakistan President Ayub Khan and National Conference (NC) founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to resolve the Kashmir issue.
In a statement here, he said all documents, letters and correspondence that had taken place between the three leaders should be made the basis for carrying forward the process of resolving all issues related to Jammu and Kashmir.
Hakeem Yaseen, who is also the state Transport Minister, said many formulae were being circulated on the political scenario and settlement of the Kashmir issue without taking care of the people's aspiration and the root cause of confrontation.
He said time has come when the people should know the details of the parleys that took place between the late leaders of India, Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir.
''Much headway had been achieved during those days to find an amicable settlement of all issues regarding Jammu and Kashmir.'' Hakeem Yaseen, whose PDF is a ruling coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir, said the people of the state want to know the canvas of parleys and proposals discussed between the three leaders. The document could prove highly significant in addressing the issues in their right perspective at present, he added.
The Minister underlined the importance of peace and tranquility for progress and prosperity of the state, country and the sub-continent as well.
A lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir should be the ultimate and collective goal of all the leadership, he said, adding before floating formulae and strategies one should first know the grounds on which the three leaders had agreed to work on.
Hakeem Yaseen called upon all to rise above party politics and other considerations and extend their whole-hearted cooperation and support in seeking lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
