Left parties seek White Paper on ceiling for surplus lands

Visakhapatnam, Dec 28 (UNI) The Communist Party of India(CPI) and Communist Party of India(Marxist) today launched an agitation for land occupation and sought a 'White Paper' on ceiling for surplus lands in the district and greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation(GVMC) limits.

Talking to newspersons here, CPI District Secretary J V Satyanarayana Murthy and CPI(M) District Secretary Ch Narasinga Rao said clearances on ceiling for surplus lands valued at Rs 1000 crore had been given by the authorities during the past few years.

Both the CPI and CPI(M) called upon the party cadres to take over the lands to do justice to the weaker sections.

Mr Rao demanded that the Government reclaim the assigned lands and distribute them to the rightful owners.

Both the parties alleged that the Government was bent upon selling the land to the real estate promoters and small-scale industries, instead of giving it to the poor, as it would benefit the ruling party politically.
