New Delhi, Dec 28: Congress President Sonia Gandhi joining in the singing of national song Vande Mataram at the foundation day of the Congress Party this morning may have brought a sigh of relief to many within the party, but opposition BJP appears little pleased with that.

Asked for his reaction about Mrs Gandhi joining in the chorus to sing Vande Matram, BJP Spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said the party would have been happy if she had sung during the centenary celebration of the singing of the national song on a day decided by her own party-led government.

But she chose to abstain on that day when the whole country was celebrating the centenary of singing of national song fearing displeasing the fundamentalist elements, who had objected to the singing of the song.

''Now that she has joined the chorus today, we feel she is only rectifying her past mistakes and there is nothing to be hailed,'' he remarked.
