Huge cache of arms, ammunition seized in Nagpur, 3 held
Nagpur, Dec 28 (UNI) The police today seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition concealed in cavity of the doors of a car and arrested three persons in this connection here.
Talking to reporters late this evening, Nagpur Police Commissioner S P S Yadav said the police had seized six weapons, 20 magazines and over 4,800 rounds of ammunition of various kinds early this morning. The arms were concealed between the outer panel and the inner trim of the five doors of the car, bearing the Andhra Pradesh registration plates.
The police have recovered one carbine machine gun, two bolt action rifles and three bolt action rifles of .315 bore in the car, Mr Yadav said, adding that besides this, 15 magazines of AK-47 rifles and 5 of carbine machine guns were found in the vehicle.
The seized ammunition included 1,500 rounds of 9 mm, 580 rounds of 7.62 bore SLR, 600 of .31 carbine, 480 of .30 carbine, 950 of PMC, 500 of .315 bore rifle and 200 5.56 bore rifles, Police chief said.
''There are definite indications that the three men arrested have links with naxalite-related groups and that the consignment was meant for an organisation in South India,'' he said.
The police are trying to find out which group the men had links with, he added.
The names of the suspects have not been released by the police as yet.
