Haryana Haj committee to probe bribe charges

Chandigarh, Dec 28 (UNI) Haryana Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker and Haryana Haj Committee Chairman Azad Mohammad today said a thorough investigation would be made into charges of bribery against Haryana Haj Committee employee Usman Khan Durrani.

''If found guilty, stern action would be taken against him,'' he said and asserted that no one would be spared if any discrepancy came to light in such a noble cause.

He, however, refuted allegations about the committee members were taking bribe for sending pilgrims on Haj.

In a statement issued here today, Mr Mohammad said the forms for going on Haj pilgrimage were being provided every year by the Central Haj Committee, Mumbai. These forms were being sent by the Central Committee to its members and various centres set up in Haryana.

He said a draw of lots for Haj pilgrims was conducted in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Nuh in Mewat on August 18. The draw was conducted in the presence of Chairman of the Haj Committee, all members, religious heads of all Madrasas, moulvis, Chief Executive of the Haj Committee and other officials.

Mr Mohammad said that the draw was conducted in a transparent way. With a view to avoiding any controversy, the list of the successful applicants was also declared on the same day. Hence, there was no chance of any kind of manipulation in the draw, he claimed.
