Tiruchirapalli, Dec 28 (UNI) The Tiruchirapalli District Drama Artistes Association today urged the Tamil Nadu government to set up housing colonies exclusively for the performing artistes in various fields, in all the districts in the state, on the lines of "Samathuvapurams", where people of all communities and castes reside.

In a statement, here General Secretary of the Association, M S Mohammed Masthan, said cultural programmes have not been gaining momentum because the organisers were forced to search for the artistes of the fields like Bharathanatyam, "Karagattam" and "Oyilattam", as artistes were scattered.

Exclusive colonies for the artistes of various fields would enable staging of more programmes. This will also help the artistes to interact among themselves.

He also appealed to the state government to provide free bus passes to artistes, who have been honoured with the "Kalaimamani" title by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram.
