FCI to continue as public utility service for another 6 months

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) The services in the Food Corporation of India (FCI) are to continue as a public utility service under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 for another six months with effect from today.

A notification issued by the Ministry of Labour and Employment said this has been done in public interest. FCI was earlier declared a public utility service for six months from June 28, 2006.

The employees in this industry, as a result, would among other things be required to give notice to their employer six weeks in advance of proceeding on strike so that conciliatory proceedings could be started.

During the conciliatory proceedings and seven days after their completion, the employees cannot go on strike, the notification added.
