ESIC daunting task to recover Rs 1140.87 crore

New Delhi, Dec 28 (UNI) The Employees State Corporation (ESIC) has to recover arrears to the tune of Rs 1140.87 crore.

Of these arrears comprising contribution as well as interest arrears as on March 31, 2006, only Rs 443.61 crore are recoverable, and for which recovery certificates have been issued, an official release said here today.

The remaining Rs 697.26 crore are non-recoverable for the present because of the amounts involved in BIFR cases, claims disputed in courts, factories gone into liquidaton, nationalisation and cases of employers whose whereabouts are not known.

The Corporation has fixed Rs 180.05 crore as the target for recovery of arrears during the current financial year.

The nation-wide special drive, which was launched on October 20 will continue till the end of March 2007.

The position of recovery of dues of the Corporation is continously monitored by the ESIC headquarters with the Regional Directors and Recovery Offices.
