Cocoon rearing to improve farm economy in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 28 (UNI) A record cocoon production has been achieved in Jammu and Kashmir this year with the revenue earnings being Rs 7.25 crore, Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar said today.

He said several steps have been taken to attract people towards cocoon rearing and encouraging results have been registered in the state in the recent past.

Mr Zargar stated this while distributing regularisation orders to 110 daily wagers of the Sericulture Department at a function here.

He said cocoon rearing could play an important role in improving the economic condition of farmers.

He said the Kashmir valley offered great scope for Sericulture and called upon the farmers to take full benefits of the schemes launched by the government for their welfare.
