Auto-rickshaw driver and freind arrested for looting GEC clerk

Surat, Dec 28 (UNI) The driver of an autorickshaw and his friend were arrested last night by Sachin police for looting a Gujarat Electricity Company clerk, who was travelling in the auto with a cash of Rs 3,18,000 and a cheque of Rs 19,000, police sources informed here today.

Ramesh Modkar, a cashier with the Sachin office of South Gujarat Electricity Company was going to deposit the money and cheque with Bank of Baroda's Sachin branch yesterday.

A young person who was travelling along with the cashier in the auto threatened him showing a knife, snatched his bag and pushed him from the auto, police said.

The culprit and the autodriver managed to escape with the cash bag. However, Sachin police had launched a search and caught the culprits from Udhna area by midnight, sources added. The arrested were identified as Prakash (auto driver) and his friend Bablu Soni, police added.
