AP to achieve universal elementary education by 2010:Minister
Hyderabad, Dec 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh will achieve universal elementary education to all children (6 to 14 years) by 2010 through successfully implementing the Centre-sponsored Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA).
Talking to reporters here, State School Education Minister N Rajyalakshmi said the Centre had released Rs 1300 crore under the SSA for improving infrastructure facilities in schools, including buildings, learning equipments, libraries and laboratories.
About Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)'s indictment on improper SSA implementation in the state, she said the previous TDP government was responsible for the poor condition of government schools in the state.
She said the Congress government had taken corrective measures to improve infrastructural facilities.
Funds were released to purchase furnitures in all schools.
Andhra Pradesh stood as a role model for other states in running Kasturibha Gurukulam schools for girls, she said.
The Minister said the Karimnagar district had created a record by enrolling all dropouts back to schools.
