A gang of robbers arrested

Mumbai, Dec 28 (UNI) The police arrested four persons, who allegedly tried to rob a foreigner with the help of teenaged children, and recovered foreign currency worth Rs 94,789 from theM.

Acting on a tip-off that three persons would be coming to Lalit Hotel in south Mumbai to rob a foreigner, police arrested Suresh Rama Pawar (40) alongwith four children last Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Brijesh Singh told reporters here today.

Detection Crime Branch of M R A Marg Police station laid a trap alongwith the informer when Pawar (40) alongwith the children arrived at the spot.

Pawar was nabbed, while the children managed to escape from the scene.

During the interrogation, Pawar revealed that he used to exchange the currency from a money lender at Grant Road.

Police raided the shop and arrested Santosh Gangaram Adavade (35), Shravan Shrivachan Bhandari and Sanjay Pawar.

Mr Singh said about 15 to 16 cases of robbery have been registered against Suresh Pawar in the juridication of Zone-I of Mumbai police.

They were booked under section 401 and 411 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

They were produced before 38th Bellard Pier court today, which remanded them to police custody till January 8, next year, he added.
