23,000 teachers to be appointed in K'taka

Bangalore, Dec 28 (UNI) The Karnataka Education department will appoint over 23,000 teachers in primary and high schools in the next three months, Deputy Chief Minsiter B S Yediyurappa today said.

Speaking to newspersons after attending a meeting of Education Ministers and senior officials of the departmet, he said the State Government had decided to open 495 high schools, 200 junior colleges and over 110 hostels this year and released over Rs 41.6 crore to develop infrastructure facilities.

Mr Yediyurappa said the State Government had issued orders to appoint 5,000 primary school teachers and the finance department had given permission to recruit another 4,998 teachers for high schools.

''In the next three months, over 23,000 teacher posts will be filled in the State,'' he added.

He said the State Government would consider bringing under grant-in-aid code over 1,309 primary schools, 650 high schools and 103 junior colleges, entailing an additional financial burden of Rs 128 crore to the State exchequer. According top priority to quality education, the Government had increased the budgetary allocation by more than 90 per cent over the previous year.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti, who also spoke, said that the State Government had decided to appoint physical education, music and art teachers.
