Videocon likely to tie up with domestic, foreign players

Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) In its bid to become the dominant player in the field of electronic appliances, Videocon is all set to enter tie-up with a number of domestic and foreign players in the retail sector of the country.

Right now, Videocon is palced among top 10 players in electronic appliances in the world and positioned number one as a Group in the domestic market.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of signing MoU along with Future Group's CEO, Kishore Biyani, for the manufacture of electronics consumer goods for the Group under the brand name Sensei and Koryo here today, Videocon Industries' Director P N Dhoot said ''We've kept our options open of entering into strategic alliances with various retail chains operating in the country.'' Without divulging anything further on the issue of his company's ongoing talks with Reliance Retail for supplying consumer durables like colour TVs, glass shells and colour picture tubes, he said ''I don't see anything wrong in tying up with a number of retail chains for the purpose.'' In reply to a media query on Bharati-Wal Mart deal, he said ''We're already supplying colour TVs to Wal-Mart indirectly through our operations in the US.'' Talking about future plans of his company, Mr Dhoot said ''We plan to sell 75 lakh colour TVs worldwide by the end of 2007.'' '' As far as our trunover is concerned, it has crossed USD 3.2 billion and is likely to touch the mark of USD 4.5 billion by next year.'' UNI KKD KU AW1439
