Three policemen injured as pressure bomb goes off in gadchiroli

Nagpur, Dec 27 (UNI) One constable of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and two the district police sustained minor injuries in an exchange of fire with naxalites following explosion of a pressure bomb, suspected to have been planted by naxalites, near village Jambiagatta of Maharashtra today.

Gadchiroli district Superintendent of Police (SP) Shirish Jain told UNI over he phone that a group of naxalites opened fire on a joint team of the SRPF and the Maharashtra police that was providing protection to personnels from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) working in the area on the construction of a bridge. The policemen returned the fire, after which the naxalites fled into the jungle, he added.

The pressure bomb went off when the team was carrying out a search operation in the area after the exchange of fire, Mr Jain said.

Constable Ravindra Bahadure from the SRPF, and constables Vinod Sonawane and Ravindra Wankhede from the district police, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged after being administered first aid at Jambiagatta, he added.
