Thackeray accuses state govt of fooling people

Mumbai, Dec 27 (UNI) In a scathing attack on the Democratic Front government in the State, Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray today alleged that the Congress-NCP alliance government was fooling the people of Mumbai on the issue of slum regularisation.

Mr Thackeray was addressing party office-bearers, MPs and MLAs at the NSE Ground at Goregaon here today. Virtually launching the Shiv Sena's election campaign for the February 1 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, Mr Thackeray said by promising to regularise slums which have cropped up till the year 2000, the government was only fooling the people.

In order to fulfill this promise, the government has first to amend the existing law which recognises slums upto the year 1995.

The government has also filed an affidavit in the High Court stating that there would be no further extension to this cut-off date, Mr Thackeray pointed out.

''First you amend the existing law and then you make further promises,'' Mr Thackeray told the government.
