Rocket fired from Gaza injures 2 Israelis - medics

JERUSALEM, Dec 26 (Reuters) A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip injured two people today in southern Israel, Israeli medics said, making them the first casualties of a Palestinian attack since a ceasefire went into effect last month.

A spokesman for Magen David Adom medics said the two, including a 13-year-old boy, suffered moderate injuries from the rocket that struck near a home in the town of Sderot.

Israel has refrained from retaliating against previous rocket strikes during the ceasefire but the government is likely to come under public pressure to respond to any attack that causes casualties.

The November 26 truce had halted Israeli-Palestinian fighting in and near the Gaza Strip, but Israel has continued its military raids in the occupied West Bank and militants in Gaza have responded with rocket fire.
