Police still clueless about Vysya Bank cash robbery
Hyderabad, Dec 27 (UNI) Mystery still shrouds the robbery gunpoint of Rs 20 lakh from the staff of Karur Vysya Bank in the busy Banjara Hills area here yesterday, with the police still clueless.
Police said some unidentified assailants waylaid an autorickshaw in which Rs 20 lakh in cash was being carried by the staff of the Bank near the L V Prasad Eye Institute in the VIP Zone of Banjara Hills.
The driver of the autorickshaw, who fled the scene when the assailants whipped out a gun, later told the police that about six to seven persons came in a luxury car and decamped with the money within two minutes.
The staff of the Karur Vysya Bank, carrying Rs 42 lakh cash from the Bank's Dilsukhnagar Branch, had deposited Rs 22 lakh in the Karnataka Bank in the Srinagar Colony area. The remaining Rs 20 lakh was being carrier to the bank's Jubilee Hills branch, when they were waylaid.
According to police, a luxury car stood in front of their autorickshaw, forcing the driver to halt the vehicle.
Police said the autodriver fled for Tirupati after the crime. The assailants threatened the bank staff Parthasarathy Reddy and Srinivas. Mr Srinivas was injured when the robbers opened fire and was admitted to a local hospital.
A case was registered by the bank at Banjara Hills police station.
Police said the bank staff had noted the number of the car in which the robbers fled. On inquiry, they found that there were 38 cars bearing the same number in the city. The bank employees failed to note the numbers indicating the area to which the vehicle belonged.
Police were trying to zero in on the car used by the robbers.
