Tirupati, Dec 27 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Limited Chairman and Managing Director Gopal Reddy today said the power crisis in the state could be solved only by setting up Nuclear Power Generation Plants (NPGP) in the state.

Talking to newspersons, he said a proposal was submitted to the Centre for setting up a NPGP at coastal area between Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.

He said the present power crisis was due to interrupted supply of gas by the GAIL.

To overcome the present crisis, it has been decided to generate additional 500 MWs from Srisailam, purchase 110 MW (unit price not decided) from Kaiga and 150 MW ( Rs 6 per unit) from West Bengal, he said.

He said the state government had requested the Centre to allocate power from NTPC.
