Mashelkar gets Dr B P Godrej Life Time Achievement award

Bharuch, Gujarat, Dec 27 (UNI) Noted scientist and director general of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Dr R A Mashelkar was today conferred the prestigious Dr B P Godrej Life Time Achievement award for his outstanding contribution in the field of science.

Dr Mashelkar, who is heading CSIR for the last eleven-and-A-half years, was conferred with the award by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) at the 59th annual session of Chemical Engineering Congress (CHEMCON-2006), which began at the GNFC sports complex here today.

Dedicating the award to his team in CSIR, Dr Mashelkar, who propagated a culture of innovation in research and development institutions in India, said there was enourmous opportunity and challenge for young engineers in Indian chemical industry.

The sexagenarian scientist said he would hang his boots as CSIR chief on December 29 after being associated with the organisation for more than three decades. Dr Mashelkar also announced his decision to take over Global Researh Alliance (GRA) as its president to look at global challenges.
