Manipur boys and girls poised for clean sweep in sepak takraw

Chandigarh, Dec 27 (UNI) Manipur boys and girls maintained their monopoly in the 10th Junior National Sepak Takraw Championships by winning the teams trophies and also reaching the regu finals here today.

Giving all-round display, Manipur defeated Andhra Pradesh by 2-0 (21-18 21-13, 21-11 21-23, 15-7) in the boys team championship final which lasted just one hour.

Manipur also proved too strong for Orissa in the girls final.

They registered an easy 2-0 (21-14 21-9, 21-11 21-12) in the team competition final.

Tamil Nadu secured third position in the boys as well as girls team competitions. Tamil Nadu girls overcame a spirited challenge from Andhra Pradesh before winning by 2-1 (12-21 18-21, 21-14 19-21 15-2, 21-17 21-14).

Tamil Nadu boys will take home bronze medal in the boys category also as they beat Delhi by 2-1 (21-18 21-17, 15-21 20-21, 21-16 24-25 15-12).

In the regu semi-finals, Manipur defeated Uttar Pradesh 2-0 (21-15, 21-10) and Andrha Pradesh beat Tamil Nadu 2-0 (21-16, 21-11).

The Manipur and Orissa girls will cross swords tomorrow in the final to decide the champions. In the semi-finals Manipur ousted Tamil Nadu by 21-11, 21-12 and Orissa ended the challenge of Andhra Pradesh by 25-23, 21-15.

Results: Boys team championship (final): Manipur bt AP 2-0 (21-18 21-13, 21-11, 21-23, 15-7).

Girls: Manipur bt Orissa 2-0 (21-14 21-9, 21-11 21-12).

Teams: Manipur (Ist reghu: O Chaoba, Ppriya, Nandeshri, 2nd reghu: Omita, Shanti, Bhabini).

Orissa (Ist reghu: Parvasini Parija, Jyanti Moharana, Kabmbi Rana.

2nd reghu: Promilla Behra, Swarna Maye Samal, Kabita Sahoo).

For third and fourth places: Tamil Nadu bt Andhra Pradesh 2-1 (12-21 18-21, 21-14 19-21 15-2, 21-17 21-14).
