Lack of commitment, poetry plaguing ghazals : Ghulam Ali
Kochi, Dec 27 (UNI) Noted Pakistani Singer Ghulam Ali today said lack of commitment and good poetry were adversely affecting the quality of ghazals.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Ali said the younger generation and budding singers lacked commitment as they wanted instant fame and money.
''Singers of our generation used to practise for years to touch the right tone but presently the younger singers do not have the patience as they want instant fame,'' he noted.
He said lack of good poetry was also presently plaguing the quality of ghazals.
The edifice of ghazal was built on the strong foundations of good poetry, he added.
''I have sung beautiful creations of legends like Mirza Ghalib, Aamir Khusro and of current poets such as Ahmed Faraz, Qateel Shifai and Farhat Shahzad.'' The younger generation poets should try to emulate the great with powerful creations.
Praising the works of Musician A R Rehman, Mr Ali said he was hoping to work with him in the future.
'' I am currently working on an album 'Visaal' with Gulzar and the lyrics are very good,'' he noted.
When asked about Pakistani artistes coming to India, he said presently there were less restrictions and a lot of cultural programmes being organised between India and Paksitan.
He also hoped the outstanding issue between the two countries would be resolved amicably as it was not a good sign to see ''two brothers fighting.'' UNI MA PN GM LS PM2007
