Hooda asks economists to study farmers' problems
Kurukshetra, Dec 27 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today exhorted the economists to study and examine the problems of farmers, especially the problem of rural indebtedness, and find out various ways and means to redress them.
The Chief Minister stated this while speaking at the 89th Conference of the Indian Economic Association at Kurukshetra University here today.
Mr Hooda stressed the need to modernise the systems of storage, packing, standardisation, certification, eco-labeling, and other provisions related to exports.
He said the share of agriculture in the Gross Domestic Product had come down to about 21 per cent. But the number of people dependent on agriculture remained high at about 60 per cent.
''The need of the hour is to shift these growers to the manufacturing and services sectors,'' he added.
