DMK instigating rebel leaders to capture Thayagam: Vaiko
Chennai, Dec 27 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) General Secretary Vaiko today accused the ruling DMK with instigating rebel leaders to capture ''Thayagam'', party headquarters after their January 10, ''General Council'' meeting, scheduled to be held in Salem.
In a statement here, he said the two rebel leaders L Ganesan and Gingee N Ramachandran, who were stripped of their party posts, have already launched an exercise to ''purchase'' MDMK general council members, through DMK ministers and district secretaries.
As almost all the MDMK general council members were not willing to pledge their support, the rebels were planning to bring DMK members in large numbers to their ''General council meeting'' and claim that majority of the members were with them and capture ''Thayagam,'' Mr Vaiko alleged.
Referring to DMK President and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's charge that Mr Ganesan had incurred his wrath for having praised him (Mr Karunanidhi) in Parliament on December 14, Mr Vaiko said he was not at all perturbed by this, as he was aware of Mr Ganesan's moves.
He knew that both Mr Ganesan and Mr Ramachandran had fallen into the trap laid by the DMK leader even before the May assembly elections, he said. When he observed a day's fast on Novembe 27 in Delhi, in support of Eelam Tamils, the rebels were busy drawing strategies with Mr Karunanidhi till late in the night on that day, Mr Vaiko alleged.
