200 hecatres of land in Dal Lake under illegal occupation

Srinagar, Dec 27 (UNI) About 4000 kanals (200 hectares) of land around the world famous Dal Lake here was still under illegal occupation, an official spokesman said today.

He said the recently constituted four-member sub-committee for the rehabilitation of Dal dwellers met here last evening with Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar in the chair.

The meeting called for shifting of Dal dwellers to Rakhi Arith where 7500 kanals (375 hectares) of land had already been procured.

The sub-committee also suggested that 2500 kanals (125 hectares) of more land needs to be acquired for rehabilitation of all the displaced people, the spokesman said.

The meeting was told that all facilities would be made available to the displaced people and the agencies concerned were directed to ensure that they do not face any problem during rehabilitation.

It also discussed employment avenues for the displaced.

The committee said about 4000 kanals (200 hectares) of land around the Dal Lake was still under the illegal occupation of people, which needs to be vacated immediately.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Qazi Mohammad Afzal and Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Taj Mohi-u-din attended the meeting among others.
