Vote for those working for village development: Naveen

Bhubaneswar, Dec 26 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal President Naveen Patnaik today called upon the people to vote for those candidates in the coming Panchayat elections who will sincerely work for the development of the village.

Addressing the party's 10th foundation day, which also coincides with the notification of the three-tier election of panchayat raj institutions, Mr Patnaik urged the partymen to strive hard to get an absolute majority in the Panchayat elections.

He said the BJD had been working in the state for the past nine years to fulfil the cherished dream of late Biju Patnaik, who wanted Orissa to emerge as the most prosperous state in the country.

The Chief Minister said his government had announced several packages for the farmers, Scheduled CasteS and Scheduled Tribes and initiated mission ''Shakti'' for the empowerment of women in the state.

The government's value addition policy had attracted a large number of industrial houses to invest in the state in various sectors like steel, aluminum, power and information technology.

The Chief Minister said the state government had introduced the Biju KBK plant with an estimated Rs 600 crore for the next five years for the development of KBK areas and another Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana for the development of drinking water, electricity and roads in eleven districts.
