Uma calls for reviving golden age of hockey

Bhopal, Dec 26 (UNI) Bharatiya Jan Shakti founder-president and former Union Sports and Youth Welfare minister Uma Bharti has urged senior hockey players to make coordinated efforts towards ensuring a replay of the ''golden age'' of hockey in Bhopal.

''There was a time when this city's hockey talent was recognised even internationally. Several hockey greats have emerged from here,'' the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said yesterday at the prize distribution ceremony of the First All India Ahmed Sher Khan Hockey Tournament at the Bisankheda Stadium.

The title was claimed by the Sai Centre of Excellence. Among those present was Olympian and former Union minister Aslam Sher Khan. The Tournament is named after his father.
