Three outstanding personalities to receive 'Kalaignar award'
Chennai, Dec 26 (UNI) Eminent writer Jayakanthan, scholar 'Silamboli' Chellappan and veteran artiste Manorama were selected for ''Kalaignar award'' for the year 2006, presented on behalf of the Murasoli Trust.
A Trust release here said the award, carrying a purse of Rs One lakh and a citation would be presented to them by DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at a function to be presided over by DMK General Secretary and Finance Minister K Anbazhagan here on January one.
Mr Jayakanthan, Mr Chellappan and Ms Manorama were selected for the awards for their contributions to Tamil language, Literature and Culture respectively.
Murasoli Trust had been honouring three eminent people with the awards every year for their outstanding contribution to Tamil language, literature and culture, the release added.
