Sportspersons attempt self-immolation demanding job

Imphal, Dec 26 (UNI) Ten sportspersons, including nine girls, today attempted self-immolation to protest against the failure of the government to offer them jobs.

The sportspersons rushed towards the gate of the Chief Minister's residence and attempted to self-immolate. Vigilant policemen, who were nearby, rescued them and took them into custody this afternoon.

Police said vigilance was maintained in front of the CM's office, office of the state education minister and state secretariat as another batch of sportspersons may attempt to commit suicide.

All the sportspersons were selected by a DPC held earlier.

However, they were not given any jobs.
