LJP finalises election strategy

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) Ahead of the assembly elections in four states, the Lok Janshakti Party of Ram Vilas Pasawn today decided to go it alone if it is unable to cobble alliances with like-minded parties for inflicting a drubbing on the BJP and expanding the party's base in those states.

''LJP shall keep its doors open for electoral alliances with like-minded parties on the basis of a Common Minimum Programme (CMP), but in case it is not possible, it will contest elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Manipur on its own,'' said the Political Resolution of the party, which was adopted unanimously after the conclusion of a two-day meeting of its National Executive here.

Mr Paswan, President of the LJP and Steel and Chemicals and Fertlisers Minister, was authorised by the party to scout for alliances and formalise them on the basis of the CMP.

Asserting that his party is poised to make significant contributions in the coming assembly elections, Mr Paswan said the party would confront the electorate at the hustings with the message to defeat the BJP and its allies.

''On the other hand, it shall be ensured that LJP not only strengthens its base in the four states but also sets up candidates for a few important seats,'' he said, adding that the party would not compromise on the issues of secularism, social justice and well-being of Dalits, minorities, backwards and other weaker sections of society.

The resolution came out in total support of the the Justice Rajender Sacchar Committee'sreport regarding the socio-economic conditions of the Muslims as an ''eye-opener document for the entire country''.

''The Sacchar report is, in a way, booster to the years of campaign of LJP, in which the party has continuously been saying that there is a conspiracy to keep away the Muslim community away from the national mainstream.'' MORE UNI SKS MSJ KN1723
