Light rain in Delhi, cool winds add to chill

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) Light rain in the national capital today lowered the temperature.

The rain, coupled with cold Easterly winds, brought down the maximum temperature to 19.1 degree Celsius, which was nearly three degree below normal. Howver, the minimum temperature rose slightly to 7.4 degree, from 6.9 degree yesterday.

About 3 mm of rainfall was recorded here till 1430 hours, the weatherman said and forecasted more rainfall during the next 24 hours.

Thick clouds enveloped the skyline since morning.

Visibility levels, however, remained normal. The level visibility level this morning was 600 m.

The weatherman attributes the rain to the influence of a fresh western disturbance which caused light snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir and isolated rains over West Rajasthan and Punjab during the past 24 hours.

They said the ongoing precipitation activity could continue for another 24 hours.

Infact, the rain and snowfall, coupled with Northwesterly winds likely to prevail over Northwest India, could lead to fall in night temperature by 3-4 degree from December 28 onwards.

The weatherman have also forecast fog at some places in the morning hours.

They have predicted a fall in night temperature in Delhi to as low as five degree on Friday and six degree on Saturday.

The Met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in the city during the next 24 hours with possibility of more light rains in some areas.
