Landmines recovered in Midnapore

West Midnapore, Dec 26 (UNI) Police today recovered two landmines from different places of the district in West Bengal and recovered incriminating documents that suggested a Maoist hand in it.

Police sources said a landmine has been recovered by the Lalgarh police from Jhitka forest in the early hours.

Local people informed the police after noticing wires running through the forest. Police forces rushed to the area and bomb disposal squad cordoned off the area.

The bomb which was placed in a tiffin carrier, was later defused, sources added.

Police is conducting special search in the Jhitka forest to nab the culprits.

Another landmine was recovered below a culvert from Neguria near Banspahari areas of the district after local people informed the police. Police also recovered some posters and handbills from the spot which suggested a Maoist hand in the incident.

The mine was planted to protest the killing of two Maoist cadres by the paramillitary force in Salboni yesterday.

Just a couple of months back, mines planted by the Maoist in this region claimed the lives of two police officials.
