Srinagar, Dec 26 (UNI) An anti-corruption court here convicted and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment an official of the Jammu and Kashmir Agro Industries Development Corporation for misappropriation of government money.
A vigilance spokesman said the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Kashmir also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh oN Ghulam Qadir Wani, the head cashier of the Agro Industries Development Corporation, who was held guilty of misappropriation of over Rs 2.34 lakh.
In case he failed to make the payment, the official would have to undergo further imprisonment for six months.
The spokesman said the Vigilance Organisation registered a case against Wani on the basis of findings of a departmental enquiry.
It was alleged the accused, in league with other officials of the Corporation, misappropriated Rs 2,34,996.59, during his posting as the head cashier, he added.
During the course of investigation, it was established the accused, with criminal intention, made entries of fictitious remittance, committed cuttings, over-writings and tampering of records, indulged in double drawals and wrong adjustments, thereby, misappropriated the corporation money, the spokesman said.
The Vigilance Organisation had produced a charge-sheet against Wani on November 16, 2000.
The evidence was established in the trial court, which convicted the accused on December 23, the spokesman said.
