IIA supports Petroleum Traders Asso demand for TT rolldown

Lucknow, Dec 26 (UNI) Indian Industries Association (IIA) today justified the demand by the Uttar Pradesh Petroleum Traders Association (UPPTA) for a reduction in trade tax on petrol and diesel.

The decision was taken a meeting of the IIA core committee held here to discuss various issues relating to the indefinite strike from today by the UPPTA to press for their demand.

The meeting was chaired by IIA President Tarun Khetrapal and attended by IIA Vice President J S Mehrotra and Executive Director D S Verma.

Expressing sympathy for the cause, Mr Khetrapal said the hike in TT on petrol and diesel had a negative effect on micro, small and medium enterprises.

The Association contended that high diesel prices posed immense electricity problem for small entrepreneurs, since due to power crisis, the entrepreneurs have to use diesel to run generators.

Mr Mehrotra claimed the government had provided provision for the entrepreneurs on the use of diesel under Form 3B.

''Under it, there is a rebate of 2.5 per cent, but small entrepreneurs are usually unable to avail of it as they do not have ample space for storage of a diesel tank. Hence, they are unable to enjoy both the facilities offered ie Form 3B and MCG.'' The meeting ended with a consensus that the UPPTA demand to reduce TT by 20 per cent on petrol and 12 per cent on diesel is fully justified.

Demanding immediate reduction of TT on petro products and bringing it at par with adjoining states, about 4,000 petroleum outlets in UP have gone on an indefinite strike from today.

The Association called for the indefinite strike after the Mulayam Singh Yadav government failed to accept their demands.

The Association is demanding reduction of TT on petrol and diesel like being charged in Delhi, Haryana Uttaranchal and Punjab and other states.
