Aizawl, Dec 26 (UNI) Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has initiated a project with World Bank to improve the livelihood of the people in the region.

DoNER Ministry officials said here today, after consultation with the state governments of NE states, the Ministry has prepared a proposal of Rs 2,370 crore for the project. It had already been sent to the department of economic affairs for consideration.

According to the proposal, the scheme would be launched for six years in 79 districts of the region for utilisation of natural resources to improve the livelihood of the people.

The project was proposed keeping in view the success of the region, which is being supported by the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

It was observed that while the overall benefits were impressive but credit linkages with financial institutions and institutional arrangements for processing and marketing of products were either weak or missing altogether, officials said.
