BJP MLA injured in agitation against power shortage

Hyderabad, Dec 26 (UNI) BJP Floor Leader G Kishan Reddy received injuries while two hundred activists of the party were arrested when they tried to lay siege to the residence of the Information, Public Relations and Energy Minister Mohd Ali Shabbir in the city today, demanding nine hours of uninterrupted supply of power to farmers.

Mr Reddy, who led the party activists from the city and neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, staged a dharna at the minister's residence this morning, raising slogans demanding nine-hours of uninterrupted power supply to the farmers.

Mr Reddy, who was slightly injured, when the police used mild force, was shifted to a corporate hospital, while the arrested workers were taken to the Gosha Mahal stadium, where they were let off after executing personal bonds.

Even as the agitators were staging dharna, Mr Shabbir, who came back to hs residence from a programme, tried to pacify the BJP activists, stating that power situation in the state was critical and clarified that it was not possible for the supply of power for nine hours.

He, however, assured the BJP activists that the Government was taking all steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply for seven hours to the farmers to save their crops.
