Zilla Panchayat heads seek more power, place nine demands

Madikeri,Karnataka, Dec 25 (UNI) Presidents and Vice Presidents of Zilla Panchayats in Karnataka have sought Cabinet Minister status to them besides seeking freedom to raise taxes by Zilla Panchayats.

At a Conference of ZP heads held here yestserday, they also sought the legislators and the officials not to interfere in the functioning of Zilla panchayats. The Conference chaired by Kodagu ZP President Ashok wanted greater fund and work allocation to this district level local bodies.

Inaugurating the conference, Shantha Mallikarjuna Swamy of Arameri Kalancheri mutt regretted that the values and principles of politics were diminishing. Stating that people get vast opportunity to serve through politics, he called upon the elected representatives to become voice for the voice less and give strength to the feeble.
