Rebels hatched conspiracy to merge MDMK with DMK: Vaiko
Chennai, Dec 25 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK general secretary Vaiko today accused rebels L Ganesan and Gingee N Ramachandran of hatching a conspiracy to break and merge the party with the DMK.
Addressing the party cadres before the meeting of district secretaries and other governing bodies of the party here, Mr Vaiko, accused the rebels of being in touch with Mr Karunanidhi and engaging in anti-party activities for nearly two months to split the party.
The MDMK leader said those who wanted to destroy the party wanted to engineer a rift in the AIADMK-MDMK alliance, carry on a misinformation campaign that the party had been dissolved, create disenchantment among the cadres and merge the party with the DMK.
Asking the cadres not fall a prey to the "evil machinations" of vested interests, Mr Vaiko said he did not seek help from anybody for coming out on bail when he was imprisoned under POTA.
There were anxious moments among the cadres and senior leaders at 'Thaayagam,' the headquarters of the MDMK, as they gathered there since early this morning.
A battery of alert party workers took pictures on the movement of people following 'reports' that both Mr Ganesan and Mr Ramachandran would make a dramatic entry and 'capture' the party office.
