Prasanna's defiant unbeaten 118 rescues TN

Chennai, Dec 25 (UNI) A defiant, unbeaten century by R Prasanna (118 not out) saved the blushes for Tamil Nadu as the home team reached 264 for eight at close on the opening day of the Elite Group A Ranji trophy cricket match against defending champions Uttar Pradesh here today.

Electing to bat first, the hosts looking for an outright win to stay in contention for a semi final berth, began badly losing both the openers in side the first four overs.

With Prasanna holding fort at one end, wickets fell at the other end. Tamil Nadu were reeling at 167 for six at one stage before the lower order provided the support to Prasanna.

Prasanna struck 14 fours in his 236-ball essay and added 90 for the seventh wicket with Yo Mahesh (25, 80 balls, three fours) to give some respectability to the total.

Skipper Badrinath (22), S Sharath (25) and R Satish (32) all started off well, but failed to covnert them into a big score.
