Police clearance certificates done away with for labourers
Dubai, Dec 25 (UNI) In a decision that is expected to leave a positive impact on the flow of Indian workers to Qatar, the Doha government has announced that newly-arriving workers do not need to bring along police clearance certificates from their native countries.
''There is no need for a worker to produce the certificate of good conduct from his home country any more,'' an Arabic daily reported.
It, however, did not say if the expatriates (already in jobs here) applying for sponsorship change need a police clearance certificate or not as the embassies of some major Asian manpower exporting countries are still issuing such documents for a fee.
According to the daily, the pre-condition that unskilled and semi-skilled workers bring along health certificates issued by authorised medical facilities in their home countries, has also been done away with.
It said only recently did the government communicate to recruiting agencies in Qatar specifying these pre-conditions in detail.
The pre-conditions have been removed because recruiting agencies in Qatar were facing problems in bringing foreign workers and they were also under pressure to hike fees by their counterparts in the labour-exporting countries, the report said.
