Merazuddin tenders resignation from RLD

Lucknow, Dec 25 (UNI) Rebutting the allegations made by Ravindra Pradhan -- the main accused in Dr Kavita Rani murder case, former Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Minister and senior RLD leader Merazuddin tonight tendered his resignation from the party.

The minister resigned from the party and National Executive. The Minister has sent his resignation to Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) President Ajit Singh in New Delhi.

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Merazuddin said he will not join RLD till he proves his innocence.

''Some people are hatching a conspiracy against me and I expect police to carry out a partial investigation into the case,'' he added.

He said, ''One cannot expect a killer to speak truth and this proves that whatever 'rubbish' he is uttering is all 'nonsense'. He is just wasting the time of the police.'' On interrogation, main accused Ravindra has alleged Kavita had intimate relations with several influential people, comprising former UP Irrigation Minister Merazuddin, Virendra Pratap Singh and R P Singh. She allegedly used to prepare their pornographic CDs and blackmail them. The lecturer had prepared CDs of some ministers and managed to get Rs 35 lakh from them.

Dr Kavita Rani (29) -- working as an ad hoc lecturer at the Lalit Kala Department of the Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut had been missing since October end.
