Srinagar, Dec 25 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against the Army for allegedly opening fire on the personnel of its Special Operation Group (SOG) in Kupwara district on Saturday, official sources said today.
They said police have taken serious note of the alleged firing on the SOG personnel by troops of 19 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) at Sogam in Lolab area of frontier district of Kupwara when they were going for a counter-insurgency operation on Saturday and registered an FIR in this regard.
Police claimed that the SOG party of ten personnel had left for an independent operation after informing 19 RR troops.
However, troops still opened fire on the SOG personnel at the Sogam market, police said and alleged that the firing was ''deliberate''.
An SOG personnel, Bashir Ahmad, sustained wounds in the firing and his condition was stated to be critical.
An FIR (83/06) under section 307 has been registered against the Army at the Sogam police station.
